Sketchbooks

My sketchbooks, of which I have many, are very precious to me, I have always enjoyed the spontaneity of line, and the drawings I have in them reflect this as I visualise an idea, work on characterisation studies or make a quick sketch of something or someone I am observing. I spent 3 years commuting to Leicester where I had ample opportunity to make drawings of my fellow passengers as shown in the journeys on a train sketches, the styles changing at various points to reflect my interest in the work of other artists, for example Henry Moore and Alberto Giacometti.

I try to maintain this quality of liveliness in my finished line and wash illustrations.

I enjoy experimenting with a range of media, latterly charcoal being one that I am using more frequently.

I am also a compulsive doodler, with my creations appearing throughout my sketchbooks, many of which spark off an idea or exploration of mark making that tumble out as I work.
